The One Small Thing #OneSmallThing campaign by Tech4Good South West is calling for individuals and organisations to commit to taking action in 2024.

One Small Thing inspires collective action across the South West to harness technology for good and encourage participation without boundaries.

What is One Small Thing?

Being involved can take many forms – joining the community, donating time, offering advice, resources or space and investment in projects, people or skills. Watch our animation to find out how we can encourage participation without boundaries!

If you would like to get involved and support the campaign here's a list of things you can do:

1) Join us !

We have recently relaunched with a membership model, become a Tech4Good South West member and build an active community.

2. Provide space

Provide space for people to work/meet/create projects to encourage inclusion in the tech for good community.

3. Pro bono support

Offer pro bono support, strategic advice, 121s or workshops to charities or third sector organisations in your area to stimulate technological innovation.

4. Share your expertise

Organise a talk at a school or college to promote digital and technology careers

5. Share training

Share technology or digital team training with people outside your organisation.

6. Support students

Engage with undergraduate students at South West universities to offer advice/guest speaking.

7. Funding

Fund a project which is creating technology for good.

8. Invest

Invest in technology start ups focused on solving societal problems.

9. Skills workshops

Encourage wider participation in technology projects through skills workshops

10. Contribute research

Share your research, insight and innovations with other people and organisations for free use

11. Mentor

Become a mentor inspiring and supporting someone to generate technology for good.

12. Create opportunities

Improve diversity and inclusion in your own team through the creation of new paid internship and work experience opportunities

13. Benchmark impact

Benchmark your environmental impact in 2023 and set targets for improvement in 2024.

14. Volunteer

Volunteer as an individual or team with technology projects or charities focused on community inclusion

15. Open doors

Run an open doors day to share your work, knowledge and skills with others

16. Avoid tech for harm

Offer public workshops to raise awareness of online safety and privacy

17. Fund an annual software subscription for a social enterprise or not for profit

18. Investment

Commit to funding a project or start up from an underrepresented group / women-owned organisation.

19. Become a non exec director for an organisation working on technology for good

20. Be an advocate

Being an advocate and embedding technology for good messages to spread the word and bring people into the Tech4Good South West community.
