Four ways Tech4Good can grow your digital skills

Our work focuses on practical collaboration and real-world impact, guided by four strategic pillars:

  1. Skills volunteering & applied innovation

  2. Place-based community building

  3. Trusted peer networks

  4. Storytelling & impact measurement

The recently published VCSE Digital Skills Survey, highlights the need for access to training and confidence-building experiences.  The findings are relevant not just for charities, but for anyone working in or alongside tech for good including founders, funders, developers and innovators interested in where support, collaboration and innovation are most needed.

We highlight four ways our South West community can support your organisation:

1. Digital Trustees & Digital Leadership

Need help at executive level to guide digital strategy and governance?

Our Digital Trustees and Leadership initiative matches charities with experienced digital professionals to strengthen digital expertise at board level. Our VCSE Digital Skills Survey found that 32.6% of organisations have no digital expertise at board level. This has real consequences for risk management and long-term planning, especially when 45% of respondents told us they manage digital risks informally without a structured process.

If your organisation could benefit from being matched with an advisor, get in touch.

2. AI Peer Network

Curious about AI but unsure where to start?

Our survey found that while 51% of individuals want support with AI and automation, only 3.4% feel confident using it effectively. Tech4Good South West’s AI Peer Network brings charity staff, volunteers, and tech experts together to explore how to apply AI tools in a way that’s practical, ethical and accessible. The sessions start with practical questions: “What does AI mean for us? What’s ethical? Where do we start?” “How are others using AI?” as a way of building collective confidence.

Join our next AI Peer Network on 17th February at 12:00 noon, in which we’ll discuss how to build your AI Strategy. You can sign up here.

3. The Living Lab

Would you like to team up with peers to develop a use case for AI tools?

As above, many organisations want to use AI but don’t have a safe way to experiment. The Living Lab provides a supported environment, bringing together members and tech volunteers to co-design and test small AI prototypes together.

4. Tech Together (New Launch)

Could you use some one-to-one guidance to build your confidence in digital tools?

The VCSE Digital Skills survey found that 65% of people received no training on their tools. Tech Together connects our member charities and tech professionals for short, 1:1 support on everyday digital challenges. Whether it’s a CRM issue, a reporting problem, or a legacy setup, even an hour with an expert can unblock progress. It’s a simple way to build skills, confidence, and momentum, without funding being a barrier.

We’re continuing to grow our skills-sharing and peer-connection work in amongst our fabulous member community, find out more and join us!
